There are around 78 million pet dogs in the United States. Do you want a dog? Are you worried that dogs have too high an energy level, and you won’t be able to keep up?

Well, there are options available for you. Some dogs are simply chiller than the rest. Read on for the top low energy dog breeds that will suit your lifestyle.

Basset Hounds

When you’re looking for quiet low energy dog breeds, you’ll definitely want to consider adopting a basset hound. Most basset hounds require less than an hour of exercise a day, so they’re very suitable for people who are short on free time.

However, basset hounds may take more effort to train than some of the other lazy low energy dog breeds out there. And, you still need to ensure that your new basset hound gets enough exercise to stay healthy since they can struggle with their weight if they stay too sedentary.

Pugs are one of the most popular dog breeds for a reason. Because of their unique faces, it’s hard for them to do a lot of running around in the first place. And, because of their short legs, they won’t be running about all over the place.

But, if you want a dog that still appreciates your presence, pugs are the ticket. Pugs always love attention and cuddles with their family.

Saint Bernards

These dogs may be big, but that doesn’t mean they’re running all over the place. Saint Bernards are very obedient and are usually easy to train. If you have a family, Saint Bernards are a great choice.

And, Saint Bernards are a decent option if you have other pets in your home, too. Saint Bernards are particularly good choices for people who live in colder climates since they can withstand chillier temperatures with ease.

If you’re looking for a smaller dog breed, you should definitely consider adopting a Pekingese. These dogs are great for families with children since they’re calmer than most other breeds.

Pekingese may be opinionated, but they’re also fiercely loyal companions. They’ll stay by your side for their entire lives. And, Pekingese are toy dogs, so they’re easier to tote around.

These dogs have a reputation for racing, but they’re actually much lower energy than you might think. Greyhounds are actually one of the best low energy dog breeds. Greyhounds are lacking in the hair department, so they’ll love cuddling up with you under a big pile of blankets.

And, greyhounds are actually content with just one short walk a day. They don’t really require as much running around as you think.

Consider These Low Energy Dog Breeds

So, when you’re out looking for a dog to adopt or buy, keep these low energy dog breeds in mind.
