Why The #PharaohHound Is So Easy To Love

All dogs are easy to love, but the Pharaoh Hound is exceptionally lovable. If you’re lucky enough to own or be friends with one of these gorgeous dogs, you’ll likely think of many more reasons why they’re so good at stealing hearts.

1. Pharaoh Hounds Can Blush

The Pharaoh Hound is the only dog that blushes when they’re happy or excited. You’ll notice a reddish glow on their ears and nose, sometimes paired with a big smile. Nothing makes them happier than their favorite human, especially when it’s time to play or go for a walk or hike.

2. They Moan And Groan Like A Person

When a Pharaoh Hound has an opinion, they won’t hesitate to express it through a variety of sounds. These vocal dogs alert when visitors come over, some howl when they hear sirens or singing, and they especially love to groan and moan when they’re feeling lazy. Whether you need them to move over so you can get into bed, or their nap was cut too short, they’ll grumble and pout just like a child.

3. They Insist On Being Bundled Up

This short-haired breed can’t resist a blanket, but will need you to bundle them up. If you let your Pharaoh Hound climb into bed with you, they’ll insist on getting under the covers, and might even take over your pillow.

4. They’re Among The Fastest Dogs In The World

Just like other sighthounds, this breed is built for sprinting, with a deep chest and long legs that carry them a few yards per second. But it only takes a few minutes of sprinting around the yard for your happy hound to get tired. It’s amazing to see them play, but even more impressive to see them take off at top speed after a rabbit or squirrel.

5. Pharaoh Hounds Are Loyal

Though they’re sometimes shy when meeting new people, especially if they were not heavily socialized as puppies, a Pharaoh Hound is loyal to just a few humans. They will best listen to the people they spend time with the most, and don’t readily bound up to other people to make new friends. Once you make friends with one of these incredible dogs, you’re friends for life!

Why The #PharaohHound Is So Easy To Love

6. That Pink, Cold Nose Melts Your Heart

Pharaoh Hounds can have subtle body language. Sometimes they’ll get your attention by pressing that cold, pink nose against your skin and looking at you with those intense eyes. It’s really that easy for this dog to get you to do whatever they desire.

7. They Have Ears Like Satellites

The Pharaoh Hound has comically massive ears that pick up every sound in the house. Unwrap a piece of ham in the kitchen, and your hound will come running down the stairs. Despite those massive ears that swivel independently to pick up every little sound, this dog has selective hearing, and may totally ignore you if they’re distracted outside.

8. They’re Rare Beauties

It’s not easy to find a Pharaoh Hound, they’re one of the least popular breeds in the United States and many other countries. That’s why it’s such a gift to own one. Most people will never get to meet a Pharaoh Hound. If you’re lucky enough to have one, you’ll constantly get compliments and questions everywhere you go.

9. They Get Even Sweeter As They Get Older

As puppies, Pharaoh Hounds are bouncy and full of energy. By the time they’re 2 years old, they’re still energetic, but start to settle down. The older they get, the sweeter and more laid-back they become. It’s easy to love these dogs at every stage of their life.

10. Pharaoh Hounds Always Seem To Understand

These dogs are exceptionally smart, learning most commands in just one session. They also pick up quickly on a lot of human language that is not directed towards them. You have to be careful about what you say around them. Words like bath, walk, breakfast and going out can trigger overly dramatic reactions from this intuitive dog.

Those big ears are always listening, even when they don’t truly understand. You can always depend on your Pharaoh Hound to stick by you when you’re having a bad day, and you’ll forget all of your worries when you look into those bright amber eyes.
